## GETTING AROUND THE CITY

#### tram From airport to hotel

The Nice Côte d'Azur Airport is just 7km (4-5 miles) from Old Nice. Nice’s Lignes d'Azur Tramway directly connects from the airport to the city center taking 20-30 minutes. With stops at both terminals one and two via lines L2 and L3.

#### directions\_bus Public transportation

Nice ranks highly for both walkability and transportation infrastructure. While the tram is the fastest way between city hot spots, trains ensure longer distance travel is within reach. Nice also offers an extensive bus system.

#### directions\_walk To walk or to tram

Getting a Lignes d'Azur bus and tram card is simple. The tramway has close together stops through most of Nice’s attractions, making it easy to alternate between walking and resting. Listen for the tram’s stop-specific audio cues.

**Pro Tip:** Check out the city’s central sights via the hop on hop off bus.

#### train Exploring nearby Nice

Nice is just a day-trip distance to numerous attractions. Bookable tours and/or the regional train network ensure a medieval village or hike on the water are within reach. Download the Trainline app to plan your route from your phone.

##### SIDE QUEST

#### Èze

I loved Èze, which is between Nice and Monaco. It’s an ancient walled city high on a hill with captivating views overlooking the Mediterranean.

## RECOMMENDED BY DELTA PEOPLE

We asked the people who live to travel to share their favorite recommendations, then sent a Delta team member to Nice to discover firsthand some of the city’s most unique experiences.

Jardin botanique Val Rahmeh-Menton

This botanical garden is another beautiful break from the sun. Enjoy lush exotic greenery with sea views.

Walk the Promenade des Anglais

This seaside path is bustling with energy. Starting at the airport and stretching past Old Nice, you’ll see walkers, runners, cyclists and plenty of beach access points.

Place Masséna

This iconic city square feels cinematic. Connecting Old Nice to the newer neighborhoods, take note of the Fontaine du Soleil, listen for the dinging of the tram or enjoy how the afternoon sun warms the red ochre buildings.

Explore downtown Menton

Another great day-trip destination sits right on the French-Italian border and is known for all things lemon. Walk the Promenade du Soleil and climb the lemon-hued Escaliers Saint-Michel to reach the historic center.

Beach Day

Treat yourself to a proper French Riviera beach day. The beach clubs along this legendary coastline will set you up with a sun lounger and umbrella, and you can spend the afternoon soaking up the Mediterranean sun with a cold drink in hand.

Explore Vieux Nice

These narrow cobblestone streets make a busy part of town feel charming and intimate. Colorful buildings, the aroma of street food and local shops provide countless ways to lose yourself exploring.

Colline du Château

Climb to the top of this hillside park for panoramic views of where the city meets the Mediterranean. The stairs from the Promenade offer scenic views all the way up, while ornate paths from Old Nice weave through a man-made waterfall and lush greenery. An elevator is also available to reach the top.

Hike the Nietzsche Path

Take the train to Èze-sur-Mer and embark on a rigorous but rewarding journey. With views of the Mediterranean the whole way up, this hike requires proper footwear and coordination but is a must-do for nature lovers looking for an adventurous way to reach the Medieval village of Eze.

Cours Saleya Market

A vibrant historic market in Old Nice just steps from the Promenade where you can wander through stalls of flowers, local Provençal specialties and fresh produce. Go first thing in the morning to beat the crowds.

Historic Perfumeries

The French Riviera is recognized as the historical perfume capital of the world. The Mediterranean climate promotes cultivation of aromatic herbs such as lavender and jasmine. Tour through perfumeries in Eze and Grasse, or experiment by making your own signature scent.

## A TASTE OF NICE

Socca

Tiramisu

Nice’s proximity to Italy makes the city a wonderful fusion of French and Italian cuisine. Give this classic Italian dessert a try.

Tarte aux fruites

A tarte may not be the first thing you think of when ordering dessert in Nice, but homemade with fresh berries — a rustic tarte aux fruits effortlessly completes a rich meal.

Gelato

Would this be a Delta Destination guide if we didn’t recommend gelato? Because of its proximity to Italy, Nice is known for serving traditional, creamy Italian-style gelato rather than typical French ice cream.

Fresh fish

When by the water, indulge in the plethora of fresh seafood waiting to be enjoyed. Pro tip: Order from the chalkboards outside of restaurants – they list the specials and fresh catches of the day.

Tapenade

A popular spread featuring olives, capers and sometimes anchovies. This savory yet refreshing dip is often enjoyed slightly chilled with fresh bread or crackers.

Niçoise style starter plate

Try a little bit of everything: beignets de fleurs de courgettes (fried zucchini blossoms), calamars frits (deep-fried squid), panisses (chickpea fries), pissaladière (a savory tart made of onions, anchovies and olives).

Pastries galore

Baked goods are a must while in Nice. Sit down for a croissant and espresso or walk toward the promenade to enjoy your treat seaside.

Limoncello

A limoncello spritz in the south of France just makes sense, especially if you’re in Menton, France’s renowned region for all things lemon.
